Obesity is defined as a disorder resulting in excessive amount of body fat. In today’s society, obesity seen in the adolescent population has vastly increased from previous years. As a result, many health issues, such as diabetes, are now more common to see in adolescents. Due to the increasing numbers who suffer from obesity, it is important to treat and advise adolescents about healthy living and encourage them to be more active to decrease the risks of severe health issues they may face when entering adulthood. Causes of adolescent obesity vary from genetic causes to poor eating habits. Other causes include overeating, lack of physical activity, a family history of obesity, medical conditions, such as endocrine or neurological†¦show more content†¦Although these symptoms are common in obese adolescent, each person may present differently with some or all symptoms. Obesity can be diagnosed by a range of exams including BMI, a proper health history, a physical examination, measuring the waist circumference, screening for health issues, and blood tests. The BMI, or body mass index, is often measured at every well-check and recorded on a chart to see progress. A BMI at the 95th percentile or more or a BMI more than 30 indicates the need for a work-up to rule out any medical problems that may lead to obesity. A BMI between the 85th and 95th percentile or equal to 30 requires evaluation of health risks including a family history of cardiovascular disease, elevated total cholesterol, diabetes, or obesity, an elevated blood pressure, increased total cholesterol levels, large increase in BMI from year to year, issues about weight including personal concerns and perception of overweight. A detailed health history is required to record the amount of fat and sugar is consumed. Questions include the amount of sugary drinks per day, the amount of vegetable s eaten, the amount of cups of water per day, and the amount of exercise per week. Uncle Alan was known for his incredible imagination. For example, in what would appear to the average person as an over sized zucchini he saw a Viking ship overflowing with its crew of unforgiving vegetables. After a few minutes of determined carving, and careful placement of each cherry tomato, his vision came to life. On vacations down to Florida, he would carve faces into coconuts and use tiny rocks and shells as embellishments for the features. In one hand he would hold the coconut, his palette, and in the other, a sharp blade. Whenever one of the kids would start, But what if- he immediately responded, Then well start again! Uncle Alan lived without fear. He knew that if he made a mistake, he could go back and correct it or start from scratch, but that making those mistakes was better than never trying at all. After about a year of an impossible battle with Leukemia, Uncle Alan passed away. Even though he may no longer be with my family in a physical sense, he is constantly within us all: pushing us, daring us, and encouraging us. He is the voice in my head that persuades me to take a different route when I cant figure out a problem. The settlement barred Nine West from any further illegal activity. Not only had the company initiated price fixing, but they had also effectively restricted the times in which retailers could run promotions. Any retailer that attempted to go against the policies, set forth by Nine West, was threatened. The settlement barred Nine West from fixing the price at which dealers may advertise, promote, offer for sale or sell any product. Nine West was also barred from requiring, coercing or otherwise pressuring dealers to maintain, adopt, or adhere to any resale price. Finally, the settlement stated that Nine West was not to notify dealer that their supply of the product would be decreased if they did not sell at a minimum price. The Com mission voted to accept the agreement with a 5-0 vote. Nine West must issue a disclaimer that will let retailers know that they now have the freedom to set their own prices for Nine West products.
